Beacon Rescue Mission

~ A Christian, Community Based Homeless Shelter in Dunn, NC ~

Your help enables us to provide food, shelter, and clothing to needy people in our community. THANKS!

Many of the faces you see in the community every day are those of men, women, and children who have found shelter and help at the Beacon Rescue Mission.

Thank You For Your Help!

88% of the people that have come into the shelter with nothing have moved into their own homes so far this year!

We offer people food, shelter, and clothing to help them reach positive goals and to strengthen their faith in the Lord.

God Bless!

"For I was ahungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:  Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.... Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matt. 25 v.35, 36, 40

Celebrating Birthdays...Receiving gifts of book bags and school supplies...working with the Red Cross after the recent storms... There's been a lot of activity and many blessings at the Beacon Emergency Shelter this fall!

Tomorrow two families are planning to move into their own homes!  I (Amos) have been talking with the kids and they have been telling me how amazed they are that they'll have a basement and a second floor at their new house.  They are excited, but said they will miss this place.  All total there will be seven people in the two families moving out.

Thanks to those in the community who are helping to feed the people living at the

Beacon Emergency Shelter

Thank you, members of Recruiters for Christ Church in Dunn, who faithfully bring us food from the Food Bank each week.

Thanks to those who drop off canned food at our Beacon Thrift Stores to be brought to the shelter. (We especially need canned fruit and juice drinks at this time...it's been so hot!)

Thanks to families, churches, and clubs in the community who bring us food from weddings, banquets, and other events.

The big issue we're facing now is the loss of JOBS...and with so many families out of work, many end up losing their homes. We just had a family with 4 children, who had been burned out of their home, successfully move into another home. But then a family with 7 children moved in! We're now housing 6 adults and 13 children...it's hard to turn people away when they're sleeping in their car with their children! Most of the adults here have located work and should be moving into homes soon.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matt. 19:14

tornado

Tornado hits Dunn in April, 2011!

We thank the Lord for His grace in bringing the community together to help in time of need.

Workers from the Beacon Rescue Mission were able to work hand-in-hand with the Red Cross, FEMA, and volunteers from all over the community to minister to those who experienced great hardships because of the storm. We carried tables and clothes racks, and hauled truckloads of food to the 'staging area' which had been set up at Tart Park to distribute clothing, food, and furniture to storm victims. At the Red Cross shelter, we worked with D.U.M.A. to assist with rent and utility expenses, which enabled most of the families there to move into new rental homes.

Since that time, we have continued checking in people to the Beacon Emergency Shelter. We now have a family with four children who lost their home in a house fire. The Mom said the Beacon Shelter was like 'spiritual re-hab' for her family, as they and their children all love attending church, and have found their stay here to be a great time of comfort from the storms of life.  Their house is being repaired, and meanwhile the parents are working and preparing to re-furnish their home. The children are going to school each day, and living here with their family in peace and safety.

The three single men staying at the shelter have found jobs and are saving for rent and deposits on homes. Some have been delivered from drugs and alcohol, and all are determined to continue trusting God in their lives.

Two ladies are staying at the shelter now, and another mother with two children will be coming in for an interview and may be moving in this week. These ladies are looking for full-time work. One lady who came to the office yesterday for help left weeping and rejoicing, having just re-dedicated her life to the Lord!

We Thank The Lord As We Are Able To Partner With Him... And See Real Changes In The Lives Of Needy Men, Women, And Children In Our Community!

Spring Fundraiser 2011

We Need Your Financial Support Now

More Than Ever!

With your help, we can continue providing a safe refuge for families

facing emergencies in our community!

What does it take each month to

provide a home for your family?

family

Every single day we operate a Christian "home between homes" for families very much like yours, but who are without resources to help themselves when emergencies happen.

"I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land." Deut. 15:11

The monthly bills of this temporary home are just like yours, only multiplied many times over...

We've been able to open apartments and rooms in a large building here in Dunn, NC, which provide temporary 'homes' for needy families and individuals experiencing house fires, family violence, unexpected dislocation, and loss of jobs and homes.

Here people are given food which they're able to cook for themselves and their children, free clothing from our Beacon Thrift Stores, and personal supplies to keep them healthy and clean during their stay. People here are able to take hot showers, wash clothes, and live in a stress-free environment while they work and prepare to move back into homes of their own.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PAY OUR MONTHLY 'HOME' BILLS!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!
GOD BLESS YOU.

Thanks to all who donate laundry detergent, paper products, mops, brooms, and cleaning supplies to the shelter, and furniture, clothing, household goods, and yard sale items to be sold at our Thrift Stores to help meet the financial needs of this ministry!

This Spring we've been able to minister to families who have lost their homes because of storm damage, house fires, domestic violence, and job layoffs.

We offer a safe shelter where people can live without fear of where they will sleep or where their next meal will come from...but we need YOUR HELP to replace old bedding and worn floors, to pay for lighting and cooling this refuge that many temporarily call "home".

The stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers at the shelter are needing to be replaced...please help us with these expenses!

We're certain that God has a hand in bringing each person who comes to this shelter, and we are very blessed to be able to offer help in time of need, and to share hope

through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
