Volunteering over the Holidays 2006 Antwan McNeil, from Dunn has come this Christmas season to volunteer her at the Beacon Mission. He is out of school for a few weeks and wanted to help. Antwan is a junior at Triton High School. Today he is helping here at the Shelter. Gifts have been delivered through the Angel Tree Program to the Shelter and families are arriving to pick them up. Antwan is loading toys in a families car as I type! We always appreciate volunteers any time!!
Joe and Lillian Legotino.
Joe began to come in faithfully every week for several weeks to help. An E-bay project came up and he took on the project. He has been setting up auctions for the Mission now for several years. Here is a link to items currently for sale to support the Beacon Rescue Mission. Joe also has donated bottles of vitamins for children from a company that he has connections with. His faithfulness has been an encouragement to all of us. Here is a link to the "Mannatech" company that Joe is involved with. This year Joe started an online store specializing in hand crafted airplanes. Classic Mahogany Model Aircraft Joe has committed to donate ten percent from every sale that is made to the Beacon Rescue Mission! It is stated on every sale page on his site. Thanks Joe!! This is our buddy Jake, He has been volunteering for years during the summer helping out with what ever needs to be done. Jake is much older than these pictures show.

During the school year Campbell students come and volunteer every Friday night. The students are not from any certain club, civic group or class. They are just a group of people that want to make a difference in someone's life. Most of the time there was not a gathering place that they met before they came here, usually they just started filtering in in different car loads. Some Fridays we would have as many as fifteen or twenty volunteers come to help out.
Most every Friday, the first order of business is to prepare the evening meal.
Some would clean, others would get out the pots and pans, others would be sent to the supermarket for last minute ingredients. While the meal was in the oven the Shelter would be swarmed with small groups of students doing small chores and repairs.
When the meal is ready, everyone meets in the cafeteria and eats and talks with the clients who are here at the time. Afterwards, the dishes are cleaned up, a pot of coffee might be brewed and everyone just hangs out in the cafeteria and gets to know each other. This turns out to be a very special time for many of the clients that stay at the Shelter, many of them open their harts to the young volunteers and share fears, dreams and goals for the near future. It's not uncommon to see some volunteers praying with clients about different situations. On one occasion a lady came into the Shelter on a Friday night while the volunteers were here. She had been beaten and had scratches all over. Several of the female volunteers were glad to help treat and apply first aid to cuts on the ladies back, neck and face. The positive impact of these volunteers will probably never truly be known. Many clients who move from the shelter leave messages to thank the Campbell Volunteers for all that they had done for them.
