About the Beacon Thrift Stores and Supporters ~ How we are funded ~
Beacon Thrift Stores are located in Dunn, Benson, Erwin, Coats, Angier, Clinton, and Lillington N.C. For directions to these thrift stores, click here. The Beacon Thrift Stores generate about 70% of the total income needed to keep the Shelter facilities in operation. The remaining 30% we depend on financial gifts from Churches, Business and Individuals. Many gifts are made in honor or memory of a loved one. We are also trying to generate extra funds through a Sponsorship Campaign.
At our Dunn Thrift Store, Employee Rose bags up some items purchased by Miss. Matthews of Benson. "I've shopped at the Beacon Thrift Store in Dunn for a couple of years now," says Melissa. "I bring Mom to Dunn to eat at Sherry's Bakery, and I always run down here to the thrift store to see what's new." Hundreds of new items are put out in our stores every day, some very unique and unusual. Melissa just found out we also have a thrift store in Benson where she lives, and she's been telling her friends about the bargains she's found and encourages them to shop there too. "One of my friends said she felt funny about the idea of buying 'used' clothing at a thrift store, and I pointed out to her that much of the clothing she buys new has already been tried on by lots of other people," said Melissa. "She said she hadn't thought of that, and now she's a regular shopper at the thrift stores, too. She finds a lot of great stuff for herself and her two year old daughter." Beacon Thrift Stores are kept neat and clean by our good employees, and many types of items that have been donated, ranging from clothing, books, toys, yard and household items and furniture, which are sold to help raise the money necessary to operate the Beacon Rescue Mission Emergency Shelters for men, women, and children in Dunn, N.C.
