ABOUT US
The Beacon Rescue Mission is an incorporated, non-profit Ministry established in 1989 in Dunn, North Carolina. This Ministry operates Christian Emergency Shelters in Harnett County for men, women, children and families. Being a community based shelter, we are not affiliated with any one church and depend on support from any local church, business or individuals who want to make a difference in this area. The Beacon Rescue Mission provides supervised shelter, food, clothing, and personal supplies free of charge. We assist people who are homeless, stranded, battered, in emergency situations, or who need to leave unstable environments for a number of reasons, giving them a chance to find work, save money, and seek decent and safe homes.
We have a 501C-3 tax exempt status, all donations made to the shelter are tax deductible.
We moved to Dunn, NC in 1987 into an old abandoned house that had been slated to be demolished. With the help of churches, business and people in the community we were able to remodel that old house which was our first shelter building. In that one building we had designated areas for staff, men and women.
In 1995 the Mission purchased a second property that became the new Ladies Division. When the new shelter was open the old Ladies Division became a Family Division to assist legally married families in need of shelter.
In October, 2001 a building became available that was twice the size of both of our current shelters combined! The asking price on the building was a great deal but the Mission had no way to afford additional debt.
The staff began praying for God's will to be done in the matter. In the new building we could help so many more people. With the prayers of His people and the help of the community the Beacon Rescue Mission was able to sell both old shelter buildings and close on the new building all in the same week! The sale of both old Shelter buildings provided money to pay off half of the new Building before ever moving in. PRAISE GOD!
We bought our new Shelter Building in March of 2002. Our new building was wonderful but there were no bathroom or kitchen areas. (previously it was a lawyers office) After three months of remodeling, we re-opened in July.
The Beacon Rescue Mission is never closed, we are here weekends and holidays.
